Entering into any healing situation, whether it is with a traditional physician or a complementary/alternative healer, requires a commitment on both the part of the healer and the patient/client. Since healing is affected by the client’s willingness to accept and embrace the changes that must occur on many levels, any time we make an appointment with a healer we are essentially entering into a contract. As the patient/client, our role begins with making the decision that we are ready and willing to be healed.
This is not as simple and straightforward as it may sound. Whether the issue is physical, mental, emotional, or a combination of these, obstacles may be lurking in the subconscious mind that could prevent us from fully opening to healing. Seeing doctor after doctor or visiting many different healers with no relief is a good indication that there may be underlying mental or emotional issues barring healing.
As we continue on our journey through life many lessons appear, including those in the form of injury or illness. Learning the reasons why we may be thwarting our own healing is a huge step forward on that path. Identifying and clearing why we become ill, remain ill, have accidents or endure pain and suffering of any kind is crucial if we are to truly be healed. This path of discovery is one that can be taken privately or with the help of a trusted loved one or counselor and often leads to life-changing realizations. Sudden or gradual recognition of self-defeating behaviors and the reasons behind them can be astonishing and are invariably enlightening.
When we work with any type of healer, our responsibility is to ‘show up’ in every way. Expecting to be healed without making the full and conscious decision to do whatever is necessary to clear the way places the entire burden of restoring us to health on the healer and is often fruitless. Along with overcoming obstacles and taking responsibility for our part in this contract, when we have faith and confidence that we can be healed, full and complete healing can and will occur.
